Course Syllabus

 

Course:        8th Grade American History

          During this year 8th grade American History will cover the colonial period; the formation of our nation and the expansion of the west; the sectional division leading to the Civil War, and the Civil War.  We will also study the Constitution of the United States and its amendments.

          These topics are covered from Chapters 3-16.  We shall spend approximately two weeks on each chapter.

          Your child will have homework and/or a reading assignment almost every day, which will be due the next day.

 

Materials

Red Pen

Textbook

Book cover – purchased or made

Pencils – mechanical preferred or Pens – black or blue

Notebook paper

Folder – I provide one

 

Grading Policies

Nine weeks and semester grades will be assessed from a total point system, comprised of the following categories:

 

v     Daily Work – usually 10 points

v     Map Work – 25 points

v     Quizzes – 10 – 50 points

v     Tests – 100 points

v     9 weeks test 10% of grade

v     Recitation – 100 points

v     Projects – 100 points

 

 

 

 

At least two grades will be taken per week

If you are absent:

v     Homework- you have the amount of time equal to your absence to turn in all missed assignments on time

v     Tests/Quizzes – if you are aware of it, you take it

 

Late Work

          If homework or assignment is late, the student will receive 50% of earned grade.

 

Absence/Tardy Policies

Students will follow policies set by Cashion Schools.

 

Classroom Rules

  1. Have respect for others and their ability to concentrate
  2. Bring all essential materials to class
  3. Students will be given 3 passes each semester.  May use pass to go to the bathroom or go to locker for forgotten class material.
  4. No hats, food/candy, or drinks in classroom

* Exception – bottled water with a lid

 

 

 

1st 9 weeks – Chapters 3-5

-         Includes memorizing the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence

 

2nd 9 weeks – Chapters 6-8

          The United States Constitution

 

3rd 9 weeks – Chapters 9-12

 

4th 9 weeks – Chapters 13-16
