Administrative Technologies II Syllabus Cashion High School
Course: Administrative Technologies II Instructor: Cindy Gruntmeir
Course Description: This class will prepare students to enter the workplace or pursue post-secondary education or technology training. Administrative Technologies II students will learn skills such as advanced word processing, presentations design, spreadsheets, databases, Internet research, career research, and time management. They will also receive a working knowledge of computer hardware and software.
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Administrative Technologies
Purpose: Technology plays an integral role in student success in all school curriculums. Today’s students must have knowledge of computer and Internet use so they can research topics and share their discoveries through word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentations, and graphics software. Fundamentals of Administrative Technologies, Administrative Technologies II, Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design and Yearbook are classes taught by the Business Technology Department at Cashion High School. As students progress through these classes they are preparing to enter the workplace and post-secondary education by learning industry-standard software. The following software is utilized at Cashion High School:
Fundamentals of Administrative Technologies: MS Word, Practical PC
Administrative Technologies II: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Practical PC
Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design/Yearbook: Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop, MS FrontPage
Course Competencies: Upon successful completion of this class, students should be able to:
1. Have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access. 2. Research a career, design a resume and cover letter, and develop a portfolio. 3. Use MS Office skills to complete a variety of projects including stock market research and price tracking, and itinerary preparation and budgeting. 4. Use MLA style of research reporting to create a variety of research reports. 5. Install software. 6. Identify the parts of the computer and how to put a computer together.

Students completing Administrative Technologies II should be familiar with the learning competencies associated with the CareerTech Business, Management, and Administration Cluster for the Administrative and Information Support Career Pathway/Major. All students should be prepared to pass the Brainbench Access Certification Exam.
