Course: Fundamentals of Administrative Technologies Instructor: Cindy Gruntmeir
Course Description: This class will prepare students to enter the workplace or pursue post-secondary education or technology training. Fundamentals of Administrative Technologies students will learn skills such as word processing, 10-key, proofreading, production of business letters and memos, Internet research, career research, business development, time management, itinerary development, and budgeting. They will also receive a working knowledge of computer hardware and software.
Prerequisite: There is no prerequisite for this class, but it will incorporate the core business skills required by the Oklahoma CareerTech Business, Management, & Adminstration Career Cluster.
Purpose: Technology plays an integral role in student success in all school curriculums. Today’s students must have knowledge of computer and Internet use so they can research topics and share their discoveries through word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentations, and graphics software. Fundamentals of Administrative Technologies, Administrative Technologies II, and Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design and Yearbook are classes taught by the Business Technology Department at Cashion High School. As students progress through these classes they are preparing to enter the workplace and post-secondary education by learning industry standard software. The following software are utilized at Cashion High School:
Fundamentals of Administrative Technologies: MS Word, Practical PC
Administrative Technologies II: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Practical PC
Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design/Yearbook: Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop, MS FrontPage
Course Competencies: Upon successful completion of this class, students should be able to:
1. Use word processing skills to produce a document(s) that contains multiple columns, bulleted or numbered lists, graphics with text wrap, header and footer, customized tabs, mail merge, automatic page numbering, tables, hanging indent, outlines, and custom margins, drawing tools, borders and shading, WordArt, and many other features. 2. List and define terms related to computer technology. 3. Type business letters and memos in correct format. 4. Use proofreaders marks to correct typing. 5. Use word processing skills to complete a variety of projects including designing a restaurant, planning a summer vacation on a budget, shopping and researching on the Internet. 6. Use MLA style of research reporting to create a variety of research reports.
Evaluation/Grading: Daily Assignments 25 pts. Tests/Quizes 50-100 pts. Grading Scale: 90-100 A 70-79 C Below 59 F 80-89 B 60-69 D Competencies Gained Students completing Business Tech should be familiar with the Duty’s/Tasks associated with the CareerTech IT Customer Service Curriculum. All students without I.E.P.’s should be prepared to pass the Telephone Etiquette Competency Exam. |
