Cashion Board of Education Minutes of the Special Meeting May 19, 2011
1. The Cashion School Board met in Special Session on May 19, 2011, President Broadbent called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m.
2. Members present: Broadbent, Robinson, Kadavy, Evans and Andrews. Members absent: none Quorum established. Also attending: Marva Oard, Superintendent, Kyle Vandruff, High School Principal, Lisa Crosslin, Elementary Principal and Stephanie White, Minutes Clerk.
3. Order of Procedure for Reduction-in-Force Hearing for Instrumental Music (Band) & General Music (K-6) – Mr. Richard Murrow A. Opening statement by superintendent B. 6. & 7. A motion to convene to Executive Session for the purpose of discussing the following was made by Andrews and seconded by Evans at 7:15 p.m. Motion passed 5-0.
Proposed Executive Session to discuss:
A) Possible implementation of reduction-in-force and to deliberate possible findings of fact 25 OS Sect. 307 (b)(1)
8. A motion to reconvene to Open Session was made by Kadavy and seconded by Evans at 8:29 p.m. Motion passed 5-0.
9. Executive Session minutes compliance announcement a) Present: Broadbent, Robinson, Kadavy, Evans, Andrews, Oard, Vandruff and Crosslin b) Discussion was limited to agenda item 6 c) No action was taken
10. A motion to adopt proposed findings of fact concerning superintendent’s recommendation to reduce Instrumental Music & General Music – Mr. Richard Murrow was made by Evans and seconded by Robinson. Motion passed 5-0.
11. A motion to adopt proposed findings of fact concerning superintendent’s recommendation to reduce Family & Consumer Science – Mrs. Jacqueline Radford was made by Robinson and seconded by Kadavy. Motion passed 5-0.
12. A motion to not adopt proposed findings of fact concerning superintendent’s recommendation to reduce Physical Education & Competitive Athletics – Ms. Laurin Hess was made by Kadavy and seconded by Andrews. Motion passed 5-0.
13. A motion to accept that a financial basis exists for a reduction-in-force was made by Robinson and seconded by Evans. Motion passed 5-0.
14. A motion to eliminate Instrumental Music & General Music position pursuant to the adopted findings of fact, but to look at implementing some type of band as extra-curricular was made by Andrews and seconded by Robinson. Motion passed 5-0.
15. A motion to eliminate Family & Consumer Science position pursuant to the adopted findings of fact was made by Evans and seconded by Andrews. Motion passed 5-0.
16. A motion to not eliminate Physical Education (K-6) & Competitive Athletics position pursuant to the adopted findings of fact was made by Kadavy and seconded by Evans. Motion passed 5-0.
17. A motion to not renew Richard Murrow – Instrumental Music & General Music for the 2011-2012 school year was made by Andrews and seconded by Robinson. Motion passed 5-0.
18. A motion to not renew Jacqueline Radford – Family & Consumer Science for the 2011-2012 school year was made by Robinson and seconded by Kadavy. Motion passed 5-0.
19. A motion to renew Laurin Hess – Physical Education (K-6) & Competitive Athletics for the 2011-2012 school year was made by Evans and seconded by Kadavy. Motion passed 5-0.
20. A motion to adjourn was made by Andrews and seconded by Evans at 8:37 p.m. Motion passed 5-0.
